Beyond Infrastructure: The Cultural Architecture of Mega Projects

While much attention is paid to budgets, schedules, and tools in the management of mega projects, their true fault lines lie elsewhere. Behind the often quoted “70% of projects fail” statistic from the Standish Group lies a more profound truth: most failures are not technical they are cultural. My session challenges the conventional, methodology driven lens of project delivery and introduces “Cultural Architecture” as the missing link in mega project success. Drawing from firsthand experience leading project teams on multinational, highly regulated programs including my role as Head of Project Management Capability Building (and now in my current position overseeing Enterprise Change Management) at the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant. I offer both a strategic vantage point and practical experience on this topic. The session will explore strategies to driving delivery excellence through a multicultural workforce, navigating conflicting expectations, communication norms, and leadership styles and building a unified delivery culture.
